Bridges, Roads and Box Culverts
Sun Construction, Inc. has successfully completed bridges, roads and box culverts in challenging terrain. Box culverts and concrete structures can be field designed to fit and meet the needs of the project.
Sun Construction, Inc. recently completed the Evans Avenue Bridge replacement project as the prime contractor. Sun provided scheduling, supervision, quality control, prime contract management, subcontract management, material purchasing, accounting, water main construction, excavation, concrete construction, bridge rail construction, and roadway construction.
The project involved removal of the old structurally deficient bridge, construction of a new 12” HDPE water main lowering underneath Cheyenne Creek, construction of the new bridge, and improvements to the roadway along Evans Avenue and North Cheyenne Canyon Road. The new bridge was built on sixteen 18 inch diameter caissons that projected 30 feet into the underlying bedrock. The construction area consists of 2’ thick by 12’ tall structural concrete abutments that support six pre-stressed slabs. A concrete form liner and structural concrete stain was utilized on both of the new bridge abutments to provide a stacked wood pattern look. On top of the pre-stressed slabs, Sun placed 37 cubic yards of reinforced concrete for the bridge deck. The new bridge also features two 82 foot reinforced concrete bridge rails with stone cladding constructed entirely out of cobble salvaged during the excavation for the bridge abutments, preserving an important element of the historically significant landmark. During the construction planning phase careful consideration was given to ensure continuity in matching the historical stonework in Cheyenne Canyon. Upon completion of construction, Sun fabricated a historical plaque for the City as part of this project that details the significance of the bridge and project site. The new 44’-5” bridge span was constructed in eight months.
We completed the Tutt Boulevard extension road and utility project in 2016.
